FAQ

  • What do you provide?

The wine, 3 wine glasses per person (to enable you to compare and contrast wines), a guide to tasting, tasting notes for each wine, water glasses, water jugs and spittoons. Optionally, cheeses and/or nibbles with plates and knives can be provided.

  • What do I need to provide as host?

You will need enough room to seat everyone, ideally with table space for 3 wine glasses and a plate, but I can simplify things with one glass per person (rather than 3), if space is an issue…

You may also want to provide a wine glass per person so you can carry on the evening and finish off the wines after I have cleared away and left.

You may wish to source approprate cheese and nibbles for the evening or ask each of your guests to bring one.

  • How far in advance do I need to book?

I normally require a miniumum of two weeks’ notice, ideally longer, in order to source wines and arrange delivery.

  • What is the usual timing for a wine tasting evening?

Usually the wine tasting will take around an hour and a half.  It can work well as an unusual and fun start to an evening with friends.  I arrive at least 30 minutes before the wine tasting starts to set up .

  • What is the usual format?

First I demonstrate how to taste the wine and then I introduce each wine by explaining its origin and the factors involved in producing it, with digital maps and photos.  I include some little known facts about the wine and make suggestions about complementary foods.

You can make notes (I provide sheets for this purpose), or relax and enjoy the wine tasting, knowing I will provide you with information about the wines at the end of the evening,

I often finish with a quick quiz about the wines we have tasted - this is optional.
